Freedom of Speech -vs- Harassment

Recently in the news, you have probably read about the Westboro Catholic Church picketing military funerals. In addition, a ruling that states that they have the right to do so under the First Amendment of the Constitution. Freedom of Speech. In its earliest form, was to protect our nation from tyrannical rulers. It was an invitation for all people to have a say in our government.

Today freedom of speech has evolved into a new type of monster, one that uses derogatory & inflammatory language, in addition to pictures to illustrate their point. There have been a few times that I have witnessed right to life advocates, carrying around picket signs with GRAPHIC photographs of aborted fetuses. They plant themselves at a congested portion of this main street, where they are certain to have a captive audience, just one block away from an elementary school. I unfortunately have those images in my head, but my children and yours shouldn't.

Is this what the founders of our country meant when they drafted the constitution? I would guess that in their wildest imaginations, they wouldn't have conceived of such a vile display. The evolution of American protest has gone from "No taxation without representation" to "Thank God for dead Soldiers", and worse. We have not evolved for the better. There seems to be something intrinsically wrong when you need to protect your children from the very principles their country was founded on.
